Drew joined Salish Kootenai College in 2019 as a faculty member. He currently serves as the chair of the Information Technology, Engineering, and Computer Science (ITECS) and teaches courses in IT, Physics, Computer Programming, and Astronomy. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in physics in 2011 from Western Washington University where he conducted discipline based education research focusing on introductory calculus-based physics teaching labs. He received his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2017. His background in physics and science education along with unique opportunities to expand his interests provided by SKC, has led to a budding interest in space science and related educational opportunities for his tribal college students.

He supports students in projects, competitions, and internships, including the SKC HIgh Altitude Rocket Team, the 2020 Artemis Challenge, Ground Penetrating Radar Studies, the SKC 2021 RockOn! Team, and SKC’s Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Team. He served as a primary investigator on a NASA MUREP M-STAR award to improve space science capacity at SKC, and is currently the PI on an award from the American Indian College Fund with aims to increase Computer Science capacity at SKC. He also serves as the SKC affiliate representative to the Montana Space Grant Consortium.

Drew strives to build relationships with his students and provide holistic support as they navigate their unique higher education pathways at SKC and beyond. His goal is to provide and facilitate educational opportunities in a way that meets the students where they are, supports their growth and confidence as learners, and meet the needs of the native communities that the college serves.

Please reach out to him to chat about education, space science, or coffee!
