Notification of Salish Kootenai College Complaint Process

In October 2010, the United States Department of Education released regulations known as the “Program Integrity” rules, which are intended to address concerns relating to the integrity of academic programs offered by postsecondary educational institutions and authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA), as amended.

As part of these rules, each institution must have a process in place for receiving, reviewing, and responding to complaints concerning post-secondary educational institutions. Each institution must inform students how to initiate complaints where the student receives instruction.

As a Tribal college, complaints about Salish Kootenai College are managed through the following processes:

Students, prospective students, and employees of Salish Kootenai College are encouraged to initially address complaints through the College’s complaint or review procedures.

  • For safety concerns, contact the Vice President of Business Affairs at (406) 275-4969.
NOTE: If there is an immediate threat to safety, call 911.
  • For other complaints related to Salish Kootenai College, contact the Human Resource Director at: (406) 275-4977.

Complaints that remain unresolved after engaging in the above-referenced processes may be further pursued in the following manner:

  • Complaints concerning broad institutional academic practices, such as those that raise issues regarding an institution’s ability to meet accreditation standards, may be filed with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities: https://nwccu.org/complaints/
  • Students in accredited disciplines (Nursing, Social Work, Dental Assisting, Education, and Medical Assistant) may file complaints with the disciplinary accreditation body. See the department website for information.
