Types of Aid

The following are the types of aid available to students at Salish Kootenai College. Note that each type has specific criteria and forms that need to be filled in order to receive aid.

Grants

Grants are free money to help pay for school expenses and don’t need a repayment. Grants are designed to assist students from low-income households. To qualify for a Pell Grant, a student must demonstrate financial need by completing and submitting the FAFSA® form.

Work Study

A part-time job through which you earn money to pay for school expenses. To be considered eligible, students must submit an application and meet eligibility requirements. For more information, visit the Career Center website at https://career.skc.edu/employment-and-internships.

Loans

Borrowed money you must repay, with interest to pay for school expenses. To apply and be considered eligible for the direct loan students are required to attend and complete Loan Counseling. Contact the financial aid office for more information.

Scholarships

Gifts that don’t have to be repaid and are designed to help students pay for school expenses. SKC offers internal scholarships and provides information on external scholarships for students that meet the eligibility requirements. Tribal Higher Education

Money provided by a tribal entity  to help pay for school expenses for enrolled tribal members. Contact your tribe for more information and application.

Tuition Waiver

Salish Kootenai College awards full-time tribal students that receive a high school diploma or equivalent within 3 years of the current academic year a waiver that pays tuition up to 1 year. In addition, if a tribal student meets the GPA requirement of a 3.0 at the end of their 1st year they can be awarded a 2nd year tuition waiver per quarter. Eligible tribal students are enrolled members and 1st Generation members.
