Take on an essential role in the business world by developing your skills as a bookkeeper or payroll officer within this program.

The Office Professions Department offers two certificates in Bookkeeping & Payroll.

The one-year Bookkeeping and Payroll Certificate of Completion prepares students for office positions that specifically require bookkeeping or payroll skills.

The Certification in Payroll Workforce Certificate is designed to provide fundamental skills used in payroll positions. The length of time to earn this certificate is dependant on the student's schedule, but should take approximately one to two quarters to complete

Career Opportunities

The Certification in Payroll is designed to provide fundamental skills used in payroll positions.  Classes focus on the payroll accounting, employment law, and basics of accounting and bookkeeping.

Students who complete the Bookkeeping and Payroll Certificate of Completion will be prepared for employment in entry-level payroll, accounting, and/or bookkeeping positions.

Learning Outcomes (Payroll)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of payroll practices and applications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the ethical and legal aspects of employment law.
  • Define terms related to accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll.
  • Create general ledger entries and basic accounting reports.
  • Demonstrate the basic principles of finance.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets using appropriate formulas and functions.
