2017-2018 Assessment Results and Summary

for SKC Social Work Program

All Council on Social Work Education programs measure and report student learning outcomes.  Students are assessed on their mastery of the competencies that comprise the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education. These competencies are dimensions of social work practice that all social workers are expected to master during their professional training. A measurement benchmark is set by the social work programs for each competency. An assessment score at or above that benchmark is considered by the program to represent mastery of that particular competency.

The BSW program at Salish Kootenai College utilizes the following two measures in its assessment protocol: 1) the Field Instructor Evaluation of Student as the Dimension Measure of Real or Simulated Practice, and 2) The BSW Capstone Instructor Evaluation as the Dimension measure, capturing the four dimensions of knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes. An outcome benchmark of 85% was set by the BSW Program for each competency, whereby 85% of students attained a rating of 3 or higher on each item captured by these two measures. An outcome score at or above this 85% benchmark is considered by the BSW program to reflect attainment of the competency.
