Program Description
The SKC Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program is designed to prepare students for entry-level generalist social work and for graduate-level professional social work education. The curriculum prepares students to be community leaders who will implement humane social policies, services, and programs that restore social and economic justice for at-risk children and their families. The cornerstone of the program is a commitment to personal and community well-being, with special focus on Native American individuals, families, and communities. Supervised field experience in selected tribal and other social service agencies is an integral part of the program.
The SKC Bachelor of Social Work Program has been granted candidacy for accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education.
The Mission
The mission of the Social Work Program is to prepare students for generalist social work practice, attending to the needs and resources of diverse populations. The program will prepare students to be community leaders who will implement humane social policies, services, and programs that restore social and economic justice for at-risk children and their families. The cornerstone of the program is commitment to personal and community well being and the cultural integrity of Native American communities.
The Curriculum
The SKC Bachelor of Social Work curriculum builds on a solid liberal arts foundation that emphasizes cultural understanding, critical thinking, communication, and citizenship. The upper-level Social Work courses provide a sound knowledge base for social work practice and promote growth in self-awareness, cultural competence, and professional ethics.
