Associate of Arts Degree (A.A.)
Program Description
For the student in search of a broad education rather than for training in a particular occupation, the Liberal Arts Department off ers a rewarding degree program. A Liberal Arts degree prepares students for many kinds of careers because the coursework gives them the skills, knowledge, and perspectives needed to succeed. The program consists of two years of studies in the diff erent branches of Social Science, Humanities, and Fine Arts. After graduating with this degree, a student is better prepared to enter the work force or transfer into a bachelor’s degree program for further studies. We believe that a good education empowers people and that empowered individuals promote positive social change. We want our students to acquire academic skills along with increased selfawareness. The department off ers a variety of courses designed to spark imagination, creativity, and curiosity. The Liberal Arts Department is also strongly committed to integrating Native American history, culture, and viewpoint into all classes. Liberal
Arts majors graduate with a better understanding of themselves, their community, and their place in the world.
Degree Objectives
Upon completion of the degree, students will:
- Create essays, reports, and oral presentations that are:
- clear, well organized, thorough, coherent and
- written to a college-level academic standard.
- Use critical thinking skills to analyze situations, relate causes to effects, and imagine alternative solutions.
- Demonstrate awareness of American Indian values and traditions, a respect for cultural differences, as well as a broader knowledge of the self, the community, and the world.
- Demonstrate knowledge of local, national, and global issues; events and patterns in history; and significant contributions to the liberal arts.
Requirements
Students must receive a “C” or better in all required courses while maintaining an overall grade point average of 2.0 to graduate. |
