Program Description
The one-year certificate in the Building Trades program provides the students with a comprehensive education and the skills required to enter into the building trades profession. The curriculum is designed to meet the growing need for carpenters. Thru this program students have the opportunity to learn fundamental carpentry skills such as: entry-level framing/finish carpentry, blueprint reading and basic cost estimating. Students develop self-confidence through classroom instruction followed by hands-on application in the field.
The Building Trades curriculum will provide the students with pre-apprenticeship knowledge and the skills needed to make an easy entry into the construction field. Along with the other required electives, such as, English, Mathematics, Native American Studies and Science. This gives the student a well balanced, overall program.
Specific Objectives
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the fundamentals required in:
- Basic Framing
- Basic Finish Carpentry
- Understanding Blueprints
- Estimating project materials
- Operate hand and power tools safely & efficiently
Requirements
* A student must receive a “C” or better in all required courses while maintaining an overall grade point average of 2.0 to graduate.
Expenses
In addition to the college tuition and fees, lab fees will be assessed to offset specific student costs related to this program.
