Writing Lab

APA Updates

Please encourage students to visit the center and take advantage of the free services provided:

  • one-on-one and group tutoring
  • drop-in assistance
  • computer access
  • workshops.

The center encourages students to schedule formal tutoring sessions verses dropping in for assistance. If students schedule a session, the center guarantees one-on-one assistance, without interruption. This also allows tutors to prepare for sessions, giving students well-rounded support. However, if students cannot schedule a session but need assistance, the center encourages them to drop-in for help.

The center employs six highly qualified tutors; three Level 1 tutors (first level of training) and three Level 2 tutors (second level of training and hold Level 1 certification).

Tutor sessions may be scheduled anytime by calling 275-4784.

The Writing Center Director facilitates a brief Writing Center orientation for classes. Please contact Effie to schedule an orientation either in the Writing Center or in the classroom.

New services :

The Writing Center will facilitate writing workshops this quarter.  All SKC students, faculty, and staff may participate. Discussion topics may include plagiarism, citations, prewriting, etc. (Specific information will be disbursed at a later time.) Instructors can also schedule communication based workshops tied to specific class meetings. (Contact Effie for more information.)  Please schedule workshops two weeks in advance.
